2017/18 breeding season begins
Our Murray cod spawning cages are now fully prepared and will be placed in the breeding ponds beginning this week. Over the last 2 years, we have doubled our brood stock numbers, so we are hoping for a good breeding season this year to take advantage of the higher brood stock numbers.
Over the next two months, we will be retrieving spawning trays from the cages, hopefully laden with Murray cod eggs. These trays will be rested in our indoor incubators. Most larvae will hatch within one week of incubation. Some of these larvae will be immediately sent to Ozpure Agritech, our joint venture project in Guangdong, China, while the remaining larvae will be placed into specially-prepared ponds to rear to fingerling-size for restocking activities and our own grow-out systems.
Stayed tuned – the busy season begins now!
Best Wishes,
The Uarah Fisheries team
